Promotions and joiners at Greene & Greene’s Private Client Team
Martine Swaep has been promoted to the position of Tax Director within the Private Client Department at
Greene & Greene Solicitors.
Martine joined the firm’s accounts team
in 2000 and it was whilst studying for her Association of Accounting Technicians qualification that Martine moved to the Private Client team to specialise in Wills, Trusts, Probate, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters.
She is now a full member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT), the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and most recently has qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) specialising in inheritance tax and the taxation of trusts.
A large part of Martine’s practice focuses on tax planning and she regularly experiences a reluctance of clients to discuss the topic, forming part of the planning for one’s death, or that of a loved one. However, Martine prides herself on helping clients to find a practical way forward when they are facing difficult times.
Since 2011, Martine has also been at the forefront of raising funds for St. Nicholas Hospice Care through supporting their ‘Wills Week’ initiative. As an alternative to charging a fee for the service, once a year
legal advisers throughout the local area request a donation to the Hospice. In the past eight years Greene & Greene has received donations exceeding £43,000, including Gift Aid top-ups from HMRC.
Martine joins Nigel Scase as one of three qualified CTAs within the Private Client department. Nigel joined Greene & Greene in 1998 from an accountancy background, having trained with BDO Binder Hamlyn and Chantrey Vellacott.
Nigel is a qualified Tax Technician (ATT) and a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and deals with the administration of complex estates, including those with agricultural and business property reliefs and a wide variety of trust matters, including advice in connection with their tax reporting obligations.
As Chartered Tax Advisers, both Martine and Nigel hold the ‘gold standard’ qualification in professional tax expertise; the designation being recognised and respected internationally as a mark of technical excellenceandprofessionalintegrity. Inorder to attain CTA membership a tax adviser must pass rigorous examinations demonstrating a high level of technical knowledge of the tax system and an understanding of the high standards of ethical and professional conduct required of them.
The Private Client team has also been bolstered by the arrival of Ayesha Brown, a dual qualified solicitor and STEP (Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners) member from Footner & Ewing in Hampshire. Ayesha has over 15 years’ experience in a wide range of private client disciplines, having worked previously as a solicitor in private practice but also for trust companies and the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
Ayesha has a particular interest in the agricultural sector, having worked with a number of farming clients on their tax and succession planning matters.
