The Marylebone, London
Fancy a capital treat? Richard Bryson finds just the place to stay in the heart of London
Faced with a myriad of options, choosing a top hotel in London is far from easy. In a highly competitive market each will lure you with ever more
sophisticated offerings.
As only occasional visitors to the capital
we are no experts, but if you are looking for a place to stay in the heart of the city the recently renovated Marylebone is definitely worthy of consideration.
You’ll find it equi-distant from Hyde and Regent’s Park and a few minutes walk from Oxford Street.
Yes, it has the ‘wow factor’ - three spectacular Terrace Suites offering some of the most impressive views across London tick that box. But there’s also a sleek new lobby bar, wellness centre, Third Space gym, indoor pool and state of the art creative and party spaces.
The lobby and bar have been sympathetically transformed into a stylish, botanical-inspired haven. The cocktail bar is divided into several distinct areas including spring, autumn and winter lounges, alongside a stunning summer terrace. Interiors are sumptuous with plush armchairs, paneled walls and an impressive selection of art on display.
If you have any interest in interior design get yourself a drink, sit back and take in the scenery. You could almost be in a private members club, but without the stuffiness.
The Marylebone’s refurbishment journey reaches the height of luxury with the aforementioned top floor suites offering unrivalled views over the rooftops and chimney pots of Marylebone and Mayfair, all the way to The Shard and beyond. After dark this twinkling vista conjures up a romantic, Mary Poppins type landscape of London though the huge terraces with retractable roofs, fireplaces, televisions and comfortable seating areas are ultra modern.
By now you may be thinking, enough of the fixtures and fittings, what is it like to stay here? Well, our spacious bedroom was stylish, comfortable and with an impressive en suite. It was quiet at night too.
Breakfast, with about a dozen egg based
Why not? Cheeseburger, fries and a Pimms
