Summer is a time of sun. Of festivals, carnivals and celebrations. Here’s our rundown of some of the best events taking place in Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex this summer period.
Music festivals in Suffolk
Our region is a great county for festivals. In Suffolk, there is at least one festival a week between May and October. If you’re looking for the best festival experiences in East Anglia this summer, give some of these a try…
A winner at last year’s UK Festival Awards, Latitude is the family-friendly event that supplies some of the UK’s most loved music acts alongside theatre, art and comedy. Held in Henham Park near Southwold, this year’s headliners are the Killers, alt-J and Solange.
Elsewhere, some of the UK’s best tribute acts, including Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran, will be performing in Bury St Edmunds’ Abbey Gardens this June. For lovers of Americana music, Maverick is for you. Held amongst restored Victorian barns, over 50 different artists provide music, alongside films and workshops.
In Woolpit, their festival always features a varied programme of artists with local connections, including this year, the Churchgate Sinfonia Strings and Swing Machine, an Ipswich based big band.
Woolpit Festival 15th – 24th June
Nearly Festival 23rd – 24th June
Latitude Festival 12th – 15th July

Ridgewell and other Local fetes
Designed to raise money for local charities and causes, local fetes bring together the whole community. Here are some of the best from villages close to David Burr offices…
Held in July, the Ridgewell Fete is a fun-packed afternoon for all the family, with proceeds going towards the Village Hall Improvement Project. Towards Newmarket, the Clare Priory has hosted a craft fair on the second full weekend in July since 1993 and will have over 140 exhibitors this year as well as a magician and Punch & Judy shows.
Other local events include the Hundon Fete and the Hartest Village Fete.
Other outdoor summer events in Suffolk and Essex
Because no one wants to be stuck inside when the sun’s out, here are some of the other outdoors events happening in Suffolk and Essex this summer…
A trip to the cinema is a great day out for the whole family. So why not do it outside?! At Ickworth House, the outdoor cinema offerings celebrate women on screen this year. Think Moana and Tangled for the kids, with La La Land and Thelma & Louise thrown in for the adults.
Elsewhere, you can watch Pretty Woman and Harry Potter at Holkham and watch a combination of films and tennis at Colchester Castle Park.
