                 From this lovely leisure pool to cool interiors and delicious cuisine, Portals Hills Boutique hotel is the perfect retreat from which to explore Mallorca. Liz Campbell gets to bask in its luxury
If your idea of Mallorca is little more than a sundrenched backdrop to the hit, style-over- substance television series Love Island, think again.
Yes, there are stunning blue sky and sea vistas almost everywhere, but in addition the island’s long literary history, delicious local cuisine and fine walking broaden its appeal to the kind of people who don’t address everybody as ‘babe.’
I suppose I was a little guilty of pigeonholing this Balearic Island. Growing up it seemed infamous for nightclubs and wild parties, very much a favourite for Club 18 - 30 holidaymakers. Over the years I hadn't really considered the island as a holiday destination but now wish that I had visited it much sooner.
We had a quick two hour flight from Stansted to Palma and then a 20 minute taxi ride to our accommodation for a three nights stay at the Portals Hills Boutique Hotel in Portals Nous. First impressions of the hotel
can be summed up with one word - 'wow'. On the outside, the hotel looked immaculate with it's mainly white and glass exterior (there is gold either side of the entrance). It looked as though it had recently been constructed but apparently it is now five years old.
The interior of the hotel is equally breathtaking. Standing in the reception area you have views of the infinity pool and the sea beyond. Everything is light and airy and a great deal of thought has gone into the colour schemes with grey flooring and

On their website, the hotel describe their accommodation as: ‘Hollywood glamour meets Miami’ in the 30 suites at Portals Hills Boutique Hotel. You won't be disappointed with the level of luxury in all of the suites including Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wifi, minibars, massive beds, large en suite bathrooms, 40" flatscreen TVs and JBL sound systems. If that’s not ‘deluxe’ I’ll eat my sunhat. The rooms are again light and airy with dabs of colour and beautiful artwork. The outdoor aspect is just as pleasing. Go out on the seaview balcony, sit on one of the very comfortable chairs, and take in the stunning view. It’s a moment that says your holiday has started.
The bathroom was large with two sinks and a shower and the obligatory lovely white fluffy towels and robes. They know how to impress with their toiletries too as they are all Bulgari. It was quite a topic of conversation around the pool that we were
