St Nicholas Hospice Care has been part of that support for local families across West Suffolk and Thetford for more than 40 years, offering comfort, compassion and practical help when it matters most.
Many people know the Bury St Edmunds-based Hospice for its specialist end‑of‑life care, but the support it provides stretches far beyond those final moments. It might be a nurse arriving at a family’s door late in the evening when caring feels overwhelming; a reassuring voice at the end of a phone call in the early hours; or a Hospice Neighbour offering companionship to someone feeling isolated. It is also the emotional support offered to adults and children coping with bereavement, ensuring no family has to face grief alone.
This exceptional level of care is only possible because of the generosity of the local community and one of the most uplifting ways people choose to support the Hospice is by taking part in its fundraising events.
St Nicholas Hospice Care has now unveiled its 2026 events programme, inviting people to get involved, have fun and make a difference.
Supporters are encouraged to register for early access, giving them the chance to be first in line when event sign‑ups open throughout the year.
The Hospice’s flagship event, the Sunset Walk, sponsored by Greene King, returns for its third year on Saturday, 20 June. A highlight of the local calendar, the walk brings together individuals, families and teams for a 10km or 15km route filled with live music, entertainment and reflective moments. Many take part to celebrate loved ones, while others come together with friends and every step taken helps bridge the daily funding gap of more than £18,000, the Hospice faces.
Alongside the Sunset Walk, 2026 is packed with opportunities to get involved; the St Nicholas Hospice Care 10K Run, St Nic’s Cycle Ride, Festive Fun Run, Open Garden events, corporate activities such as clay pigeon shooting, and adrenaline‑fuelled challenges including firewalking and trekking.
By taking part in an event, you’re not just signing up for a memorable experience; you’re helping ensure that a nurse can knock on a family’s door when they need support most, that someone in distress has someone to call, and that children facing loss have a safe place to turn.
