Pick Your Own Pumpkins
Rougham Estate, Rougham, Bury St Edmunds, 14th-15th October, then everyday 20th-29th October 2023
The Pumpkin Patch at Rougham Estate, just east of Bury St Edmunds, will be full of colour this October, as thousands of pumpkins, squashes and gourds in 18 different varieties from miniature to extra-large will be waiting to be picked. Get ready for Halloween with free entry, just pay for your chosen pumpkin and treat yourself to delicious coffee and posh toasties.
Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, 17th-21st October 2023
This October, why not take in the award-winning show, Oliver, at the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds. Based on Charles Dicken’s novel, the story tells the twists and turns of an orphaned boy’s life in Victorian England. Lionel Bart’s classic musical will be presented by the Bury St Edmunds Operatic and Dramatic Society.
Experience an evening of ‘trick or treat’ fun in the magnificent setting of Felixstowe’s Landguard Fort. With spooky tunnels and themed displays to enjoy, there will be prizes for the best fancy dress outfit. Suitable for children aged 3-12 years, refreshments available.
Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham Estate, Bury St Edmunds, 18th 0ctober – 22nd December 2023
Just 3 miles east of Bury St Edmunds, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Country Christmas Shop at Blackthorpe Barn. Full of themed decorations, from magical woodlands to Nordic yuletide and plentiful gifts to suit all tastes, it’s a truly magical experience for all ages. A new café opens this year offering homemade fare.
Ickworth Estate, Horringer, Bury St Edmunds, 10th-26th November 2023
Admire Ickworth’s Italianate palace and glorious gardens by evening, strolling through paths lined with lights. Look for willow woven sculptures and gothic inspired Stumpery in the shadows. This year, for the first time, the Rotunda will be illuminated, revealing its impressive façade, vast Cedar meadow and North Lawn which it overlooks.
Join with friends and family as this bustling market town is transformed for the Bury St Edmunds Christmas Lights Event. This free event marks the start of the festive season, where visitors will see the annual Christmas lights being switched on whilst enjoying an array of entertainment and market stalls around the town.
Helmingham Hall, Helmingham, Stowmarket, 16th November – 17th December 2023
Start the festive season by stepping into a magical winter wonderland as Helmingham Hall’s gardens are transformed with thousands of lights, colour and sound. The trail will explore the historical grounds and take you across Helmingham’s famous drawbridge. Finish off toasting marshmallows around the fire pits and browse the Stable Shops for gifts and festive treats.
St Peter and St Paul’s Church & Town Hall, Clare, 24th-25th November 2023
Taking place across two locations in the heart of Clare, this delightful Christmas Fair brings you 70 exhibitors selling festive food, drinks and a wonderful selection of gifts. Carols from the Church Choir and Long Melford Silver band will accompany you while you enjoy Christmas shopping. Don’t forget to try the warming mulled wine and mince pies while you’re there!
Lavenham Village Hall, Lavenham, 25th-26th November 2023
Peruse the forty or so stalls of handmade arts and crafts in the Village Hall, take part in workshops and visit the café for refreshments. On day two, the award winning Lavenham Farmers Market will be outside the Hall, offering artisan produce from across the region, including locally baked fresh bread and Suffolk pork, Longhorn beef, lamb and venison.
Kersey Mill, Kersey, 2nd-3rd, 9th-10th, 16th-17th, 22nd December 2023
A visit to Santa’s workshop at Kersey Mill includes a ride on the Santa Express Christmas Train, a dancing Elf Disco as well as meeting Mr Claus himself. With lots of fun activities to take part in, including making Christmas decorations and reindeer food, this is a truly magical experience that every child will love.
Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve, Bury St Edmunds, 10th December 2023
Learn how to identify visiting bird populations and resident bird species that make Lackford Lakes reserve their home during Winter. Suitable for beginners and less experienced bird watchers, the event will be led by local expert Paul Holness. Delicious hot snacks and cakes available at the Café.
Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, 9-10 & 16-17 December 2023
Step back in time to 1869, as Kentwell Hall invites visitors to meet their Victorian Bence Family, household staff and cooks. Visitors of all ages can immerse themselves in a range of enjoyable activities taking place both inside the Hall and various locations outside including the garden, yard and music hall. Father Christmas will also be making an appearance.
