The Granary is a hidden gem situated within the grounds of a gorgeous Grade II* listed country house in a rural location just a short drive from some of our area’s most picturesque towns and villages. The property caters for up to 4 guests and is arranged over a single storey ensuring convenient accessibility.
The property is approached through a five-bar gate and its own front door into an impressive open-plan kitchen/living area. There is plenty of space for seating arranged around a smart TV perfect for a quiet night of relaxing and watching films. The kitchen is well equipped with an oven, coffee machine and everything needed for a comfortable stay. An orangery provides space for dining with doors opening onto the Granary’s private secluded garden area with further outside seating available. Two bedrooms (one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed) sleep up to 4 guests with a bathroom containing both a bath and a shower. There is a private off-road allocated parking space on a pebbled driveway.
The Granary is situated in the pretty rural village of Pentlow on the Essex/Suffolk border with many beautiful walks in the vicinity. It is ideally placed to explore the neighbouring town of Clare (Suffolk’s smallest town) with numerous pubs, restaurants, cafes/tearooms, shops including a grocery store and independent retailers and it still plays host to a market on the third Saturday of every month. It also contains the country park and castle ruins with a network of footpaths leading throughout the Stour Valley. Long Melford sits just over 10 minutes away from what is reputed to be one of the longest high streets in England with its vast array of attractions including two stately homes (Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall) which periodically open to the public and are well worth a visit.
Slightly further afield is the Cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds (approx. 20 miles) and the market town of Sudbury (approx. 6.5 miles) the latter with rail links to London Liverpool Street.
we've loved our stay at the granary, it thoroughly exceeded our expectations - thank you for having us
This is a lovely little cottage, quiet location, plenty of parking. However the electric heaters have to be turned off if you go out, which means upon return the cottage is extremely cold especially as we stayed in January! Summer months I’m sure it would be perfect.
Lovely scenery surrounding the property, beautiful spot for sunrises and sunsets over the fields and only a short journey into Sudbury if going that way. Very comfortable beds and cozy lounge. Thankyou!
Loved it! A perfect getaway, can't wait to return.
Angela & Keith gave us a very welcome tour of the property on arrival and had gifted us a very generous welcome pack. The accommodation is spacious and well maintained with many family features making a very cosy home from home experience. The local area is beautiful to explore.
Everything was good and clean, strangely no tea spoons. My only gripe was the next garden had a dog that barked, The owners had 2 dogs and 2 of their sons dogs which overall were quiet but woke me one day at 5.50 and a couple of other days early. Hopefully it was the sons dogs and all will be quiet for anyone else.
We had a truly wonderful stay at The Granary. Keith and Angela were the perfect, most generous hosts — welcoming, thoughtful, and always on hand if needed. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and much appreciated after our journey. The property itself is spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and set in a peaceful, beautiful location. It’s clear that a lot of care and attention has gone into making it a relaxing and well-equipped space. It’s been the perfect stay — we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Great place to stay, closeby to long melford and lovely hosts
If I could give 11/10 for this holiday home I would! It was immaculate throughout, there was a lovely welcome basket with some beautiful flowers which we really appreciated. My mum and I felt very much at home from the moment we got there. The beds were so comfortable, we slept very well indeed! And everything has been thought of to make our stay so special. Thank you to Angela and Keith for all their kindness, and we hope to return again soon.
