The water meadows provide acres of picturesque grounds with miles of footpaths to explore. There are numerous pubs, restaurants and cafes as well as a host of independent retailers and amenities. Slightly further afield, the cathedral town of Bury St Edmunds offers plenty to discover including nearby Ickworth House, another National Trust venue, with stunning park-like grounds.

The neighbouring historic villages of Long Melford and Lavenham also offer a variety of amenities including numerous public houses and restaurants, art galleries, tea rooms and cafés, independent retailers, antiques shops and visitor attractions. Of particular note is both Melford Hall operated by the National Trust and the privately owned Kentwell Hall, both of which periodically open to the public throughout the year. The Lavenham Guildhall is also well worth a visit.
