Things to do in Suffolk: High Lodge

Discover the UK's largest manmade lowland forest at High Lodge

Play, run, climb or cycle your way through High Lodge, in Thetford Forest – the third largest forest in England at over 18,730 hectares. High Lodge features exciting outdoor play facilities including Go Ape, a treetop high ropes adventure activity. For those who still want to have fun, but like to stay on the ground, Segway experiences are available for an adrenalin rush.

If scenic walking is more your thing, The Heritage Trail is a 4.2km circular route with shortcuts at 1km and 3km with benches and rest perches to take a break. The trail allows visitors to explore the hidden history of High Lodge. There is a touchscreen monitor and audio panels along the route for walkers to learn the four thousand years of landscape history beneath the trees. High Lodge isn’t just about exploration and discovery, its café is perfectly located as a spot for lunch or a hot or cold drink.

In the summer months, the large open green is used for picnics and occasionally concerts of some famous music artists including Ed Sheeran and Madness. A patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves provide the ideal setting for a great day out, and a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life.
