East Anglian Railway Museum

Things to do in Essex: East Anglian Railway Museum

A working museum dedicated to preserving the history of railways in the Eastern Counties

East Anglian Railway Museum has a great collection of steam engines, carriages, and wagons to discover, plus a mini rail you can explore. There is plenty to see and do here, whatever time of the year you visit!
You can pull the levers in the Signal Box and learn how a signalman controlled the trains on the lines. Explore the carriages and go back in time to how the previous generations would travel. Enjoy rides on the Mini Rail and Mum and Dad can ride with you!
Experience the thrill of driving a full sized steam locomotive on a driver experience course. Learn to operate a steam locomotive and about other railway duties and, if you choose the Full-Day Experience, you take control in our signal box, acting as both guard and crossing keeper. All supported by our friendly and fully qualified instructors.
